The essentials
Cowboys add RB Demercado off waivers, leveraging prior coaching relationship with Adams.
The Dallas Cowboys have claimed running back Emari Demercado off waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs, adding depth to their offensive backfield. Demercado signed a one-year contract with Kansas City in March 2025 before becoming available.
Cowboys offensive coordinator Klayton Adams previously coached Demercado during his three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, establishing familiarity between the player and coaching staff. This prior relationship likely influenced Dallas's decision to pursue the waiver claim.
The acquisition comes as the Cowboys continue roster refinement ahead of the 2026 season. To accommodate Demercado, the team waived fifth-round draft pick Jaydon Blue, adjusting their backfield composition.
