Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho co-founded Sentebale in April 2006 to support young people living with HIV and AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana. The charity's name means 'forget-me-not' in Sesotho, the local language of Lesotho. It was established to honor the memory of both founders' mothers.
Sentebale, a charity co-founded by Prince Harry in 2006 to support young people living with HIV and AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana, filed a defamation lawsuit against Prince Harry and Mark Dyer, a former trustee, in London's High Court in April 2026. The charity alleges that Harry and Dyer orchestrated a coordinated adverse media campaign that spread false narratives about the charity and its leadership, causing reputational damage and triggering cyber-bullying.
Disagreements at Sentebale emerged in 2023 over a proposed new fundraising strategy. These internal conflicts eventually led to the broader governance dispute between the charity's board and its chair Sophie Chandauka that culminated in the resignation of Prince Harry and the board trustees in March 2025.
The Charity Commission for England and Wales completed an investigation into allegations of bullying and harassment at Sentebale in August 2025. The commission found no evidence of widespread bullying or misogyny at the charity. However, the commission criticized both the board of trustees and Sophie Chandauka for allowing the internal dispute to play out publicly, damaging the charity's reputation and jeopardizing its ability to serve beneficiaries.
Following the resignation of Prince Harry and the board trustees, Sophie Chandauka, chair of Sentebale's board, accused Harry of orchestrating a campaign of bullying and harassment to force her out of the organization. Chandauka reported the allegations to Britain's Charity Commission for investigation.
Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, co-founders of Sentebale, resigned as patrons in March 2025 following an internal dispute with the charity's board chair, Sophie Chandauka. The board of trustees also resigned in solidarity with the co-founders. Harry and Seeiso stated that the relationship between the board and Chandauka had broken down beyond repair, describing the situation as devastating.
