Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores, a 45-year-old transport company owner and candidate from the left-wing party Ahora Nacion, won the municipal elections in Queropalca, a remote Andean village in Peru's Huanuco region. He received 229 votes compared to 204 for far-right candidate Gaspar Osorio, out of 663 total voters. He will officially assume office as mayor on January 1, 2027.
In rural regions of South America, particularly in the Andes, some parents name their children after historical figures without understanding the figures' ideologies or significance. Names like Hitler, Lenin, Stalin, and Mao have been given to individuals in Peru. In 2021, a centrist doctor named Hitler Saavedra Casternoque was elected to the Peruvian Parliament. In 2018, Hitler Alba Sanchez was elected mayor of the Andean district of Yungar, campaigning as the 'gentle Hitler' to voters.
