Zachariah Scott, a former senior technical artist at Bit Reactor, posted on LinkedIn accusing management of concealing the furlough of the team weeks before the game's launch. Scott stated that employees he spoke with confirmed they were furloughed approximately three weeks prior to release and expressed lack of confidence about returning to the studio regardless of the game's commercial performance.
A Bit Reactor representative stated that the company hopes to bring furloughed workers back with restored pay contingent on strong sales performance of Star Wars Zero Company. The company has not specified what level of commercial success would trigger rehiring, and furloughed employees have expressed skepticism about the prospect of returning regardless of the game's performance.
Bit Reactor co-founder Alison Kelly filed a lawsuit against co-founder Greg Foertsch, claiming she was pushed out of the company and left without compensation for her stake. Kelly, who served as COO, is seeking $20 million in damages based on the alleged value of her ownership stake. Foertsch has countersued, denying that Kelly was ever a co-owner and making performance-related allegations against her. A trial is scheduled for early 2027.
Star Wars Zero Company launched to positive critical reception and strong early sales. The game received scores ranging from 7/10 to 9/10 from reviewers, achieved an 85 Metacritic score, and became the second or third top-selling game on Steam. Player reviews on Steam were predominantly positive with approximately 79% of user reviews rating it thumbs up.
Bit Reactor, the developer of Star Wars Zero Company, placed approximately 80% of its workforce on furlough without pay in the weeks preceding the game's launch. The furloughs were confirmed by a Bit Reactor representative to Game File and were made independently by the studio, not by publisher EA or Star Wars owner Disney. The decision was made because the studio ran out of money before the game's release.
