One of the three French suspects was connected to Jessica Bowie, a 35-year-old American woman suspected of preparing a bomb attack on the New York State Parliament building for Islamic State. Bowie was arrested in August in the United States. A source close to the case confirmed the link between one of the French defendants and the woman arrested by the FBI.
Jessica Bowie, an American woman converted to Islam five years ago, became radicalized in recent months and planned a bombing attack on the New York State Parliament building for Islamic State. She disclosed her intentions to an FBI informant who helped her obtain a firearm and components to manufacture an explosive device. The informant conducted surveillance of the target location multiple times. Bowie faces a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.
Three men were charged and detained overnight Friday to Saturday on suspicion of preparing departure to Islamic State in Africa and/or planning violent action targeting the Jewish community. The investigation, conducted by DGSI, began in early July around jihadist activities within a WhatsApp group called "soldiers of Allah". The men were taken into custody on Tuesday following investigations. On Friday, September 4, the national anti-terrorism prosecutor opened a judicial investigation for terrorist criminal association, leading to the appointment of an investigating judge who ordered their examination and provisional detention.
