Rémy Daillet, 60-year-old leader of a far-right extremist group, was sentenced to six years in prison with continued detention by the Paris correctional court on October 15, 2026. He was convicted as the instigator of the abduction of 8-year-old Mia Montemaggi in April 2021 and for involvement in a conspiracy to overthrow the French government.
On April 2021, in the Vosges region, 8-year-old Mia Montemaggi was abducted from her grandmother's care by individuals posing as youth protection workers. The child had been placed with her grandmother due to parental neglect. Mia was found five days later in Switzerland following police investigations.
The far-right group recruited members from diverse backgrounds including military officers, professors, entertainment workers, and sports coaches. Most were unknown to police prior to the investigation. The group was characterized by cellular compartmentalization and multiple operational objectives.
Thirteen co-defendants in the case received mostly suspended sentences with electronic monitoring requirements. Robert K., residing in the United States and absent from proceedings, received a two-year prison sentence with an arrest warrant. Lola M., Mia's mother who participated in the abduction, received a two-year sentence with 18 months suspended and mandatory counseling.
The far-right network's operation, named 'Projet Azur', included plans to forcibly take control of the Élysée Palace and Matignon government buildings. The group targeted Masonic lodges, Jewish personalities including Jacques Attali, political figures including Édouard Philippe, journalists, and magistrates designated for potential harm.
Rémy Daillet, operating from Malaysia before his 2021 expulsion, established a hierarchical clandestine far-right network in France from autumn 2020. The network aimed to overthrow the government, exploiting discontent from COVID-19 lockdowns and the Yellow Vest movement through a YouTube channel with 35,000 subscribers.
Members of the far-right network prepared handmade explosives and conducted sabotage training, including burning two 5G relay antennas in early 2021 near Aix-en-Provence and Lyon. A chemistry teacher named Lionel F. prepared explosive recipes for the group.
