A shooting occurred at an after-hours venue on Detroit's west side near Eaton Avenue and Prest Street on September 27, 2026, at approximately 7:20-7:22 a.m. Three adult males, approximately 30 years old or older, were fatally shot. Four additional victims—two men and two women in their 20s and 30s—were transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Police Chief Todd Bettison said the shooting stemmed from an altercation that escalated to gun violence. Officers arrived within four minutes of receiving a ShotSpotter alert.
Police Chief Todd Bettison stated that the address where the shooting occurred was previously known to the Detroit Police Department. The department had received seven calls for service to the location since the beginning of 2026 and had an ongoing investigation into the address. Bettison described the venue as an after-hours location with dancing-type activities, likening it to a strip club, and noted it had been operating for approximately 20 years.
Police Chief Bettison stated that investigators have leads in the case and promised to work around the clock to identify those responsible. He emphasized that perpetrators would be brought to justice. No arrests had been announced as of the time of the news conference, and police asked the public to call Crime Stoppers with any information.
Mayor Mary Sheffield stated that the city will continue to crack down on illegal after-hours operations, whether in businesses or homes. She called the shooting 'heartbreaking' and 'senseless violence,' and announced that the Office of Neighborhood and Community Safety would provide robust wraparound services to affected families and the community.
