As part of its network transformation, Auchan transferred 164 supermarkets to A+ Super, an entity owned by Auchan Retail France but operated as franchises by Intermarché and Netto under the Mousquetaires grouping. The transfer began October 1, 2026, with brand changes extending through May 2027.
The Mousquetaires grouping, which includes Intermarché and Netto, directly acquired 72 supermarkets that were being sold by Auchan as part of the retailer's strategic transformation toward its hypermarket focus.
Three Auchan supermarkets in France's Isère region will be converted to Lidl stores as part of the acquisition deal: stores in Vézeronce-Curtin, Villefontaine, and Saint-Jean-de-Bournay. These locations were initially proposed to the Mousquetaires grouping before that arrangement fell through.
The 17 supermarkets being sold to Lidl are distributed across France including locations in Haute-Loire, Lot, Pas-de-Calais, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Drôme, Dordogne, Bouches-du-Rhône, Savoie, Aisne, Var, Aude, and Val-de-Marne. The restructuring ensures all 266 stores in the transformation project have identified solutions with no store closures planned.
French retailer Auchan announced on September 24, 2026, that it has entered into exclusive negotiations with German discount retailer Lidl to sell 17 supermarkets that had not found other buyers. This sale completes Auchan's transformation of its 266-store network as the company focuses on its hypermarket format. The transaction is subject to approval by competition authorities and could be effective in the first quarter of 2027.
In November 2025, Auchan initiated a 'transformation' project of its 266-store network to concentrate on its hypermarket operations, such as its store in Fontaine near Grenoble. The company retained only 13 supermarkets in its direct operations under other formats.
